TRANSPORATATION
With Congressional District 4 so near to the nation's capital, many constituents are employees of the federal government. However, the lack of public transportation expansion into areas of the District, coupled with deteriorating infrastructure puts a toll on many hard working families of the District. In addition, more tourists in the area may be inclined to visit the National Harbor's beautiful scenery, shopping, dining, and casino if the same transportation options were available to access the Harbor as in the nation's capital.
ECONOMY
With gas prices on the rise, and the cost of living continuing to increase, the Federal Government's Step Increases and transportation subsidies for federal employees, who make up a large population of Maryland District 4's constituents, should be increased. In addition, access to capital for small business owners needs to be made simpler to take advantage of grants, loans, and responses to requests for proposals.
EDUCATION
The safety of our children in light of recent events is the number of priority of every parent in the nation. Maryland's District 4 is comprised of a number of schools where the focus should be on smart and immediate solutions to prevent the senseless tragedies from occurring, so that we can focus on providing the best learning experiences to our children. Providing additional financial resources to schools to implement security measures in addition to the commitment to provide a stellar education to our children is imperative. Training of police officers as well as increased metal health treatment options in the community could assist in thwarting the dangers of simply attempting to get an education.
Why Tammy?
As a former Federal Employee, having spent over a decade as a Senior attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, Tammy has a proven track record of advocacy. Tammy is the most qualified candidate in this race. Once elected, Tammy will continue to fight for quality and affordable education, safe transportation, and a stable economy.
ISSUES
ECONOMY
Given the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s Fair Access Banking Rule, job opportunities can be created in it is implemented correctly in a way where environmental concerns on drilling are addressed, only specific types of firearms can be manufactured, and the predatory lending that adversely impacts underrepresented groups is regulated in a way to protect the residents of District 6.
CANNABIS
District 4 needs a piece of the billion-dollar industry, that has left underrepresented groups imprisoned. underrepresented groups.
Nestled between DC and Virginia, Maryland still has not fully legalized marijuana. With District 4 mere minutes from DC and Virginia, Marylanders deserve the safe legalization of cannabis that simultaneously addresses those incarcerated with marijuana offenses.
GUN CONTROL
Blanket gun control laws run the risk of hurting underrepresented groups who already historically serve disproportionate prison sentences for offenses involving firearms. Law-abiding District 4 residents deserve to exercise their 2nd amendment rights while simultaneously disarming individuals with a propensity for the type of violence that leads to mass shootings.
